The name “Mast” is an acronym of Multichrome Antibiotic Susceptibility Test. Our name still stands for what our company produces today alongside a wide range of diagnostic products.

Mast Group was founded in 1959 by John Oliver. The company has since passed from generation to generation and is, to this day, still owned by the Oliver family.

Mast Group has evolved over the past 7 decades of business – from a small office in Liverpool to now a multinational company in the UK, France, Germany and South Africa.

In 1957, John Oliver pioneered the ground-breaking AST disc, with Mast Group being one of the first to commercialise them. To this day, AST discs remain a core product to diagnostic settings and our business alike, and our wider product portfolio continues to rapidly expand with new technologies to fit the IVDR market.
