Celebrating young scientists at the Business of Science Innovation Awards!
Congratulations to Phoebe Gorman, age 12, from Dovedale Primary School, who won with this year’s award with her brilliant project “The Scouse Seagarden” – a floating farm concept inspired by her mum propagating plants at home. Phoebe’s idea uses hydroponics and aquaponics to grow food without soil, produce clean water, and help reduce carbon emissions. The goal? Reduce food miles, improve access to fresh produce, and help Liverpool become carbon net zero.
Phoebe’s idea is not only creative but deeply relevant. Her poster explained how the floating farms could double as educational centres and community hubs – promoting zero-waste lifestyles and inspiring greener urban living.
Phoebe confidently explained her idea to hundreds of attendees on the day. We were incredibly impressed by her vision and passion.
We also loved meeting Dylan, age 7, a shortlisted finalist who travelled from Hertfordshire with his family. It was fantastic to see such young minds thinking about science and sustainability.
The awards are part of the Business of Science Conference which brings together leaders from science, business, education, and policy to share insights and drive innovation forward. We can’t wait to be apart of next years conference!
